A Night of Community, Connection, and Holiday Magic at Candy Cane Lane
This weekend, I had the joy of spending my evening at Marysville’s Candy Cane Lane — a yearly tradition that truly showcases the heart of Yuba County. The lights, the music, the warm smiles, and the excitement on children’s faces reminded me why our community is so special. But one moment in particular stayed with me long after the event ended.

Meeting a Family From District 1 — A Moment I’ll Never Forget
As I walked through the event greeting families, I noticed a little girl bundled up in a stroller, her wide eyes fixed on the Christmas characters dancing nearby. I knelt beside her and handed her a candy cane, and that’s when her mother leaned in and told me:
“We almost didn’t come tonight… it’s been a tough year. But seeing all of this, seeing people out here showing love — it means so much.”
Her words stopped me.
Not because they were unusual, but because they reminded me of the countless families in District 1 who are doing their best every day, no matter what life puts in front of them.
We talked for a few minutes. She told me how long she’s lived in Yuba County, how the community has always felt like home, and how events like Candy Cane Lane give her hope — not just for the holidays, but for the kind of place her child will grow up in.
I told her what I truly believe:
“Our community is stronger because of families like yours. You matter. Your voice matters. And you deserve leaders who show up — not just on election years, but every day.”
We shared a warm smile, and as I stepped away, I felt a surge of gratitude. Moments like this remind me why I serve. They are the reason I fight for better resources, better support, and more opportunities for families across District 1.
Why Showing Up Matters
Being a supervisor isn’t just about policies and meetings.
It’s about presence — being there for the big moments and the quiet ones.
It’s about listening, not just hearing.
It’s about understanding the stories, the struggles, and the dreams of the people who make our community what it is.
When I walk through events like Candy Cane Lane, I’m not just attending.
I’m learning.
I’m connecting.
I’m being reminded that leadership begins with compassion and continues through service.
The Heart of Yuba County Is Its People
To every family who came out this weekend — thank you.
Thank you for your warmth, your smiles, your conversations, and your trust.
Yuba County District 1 is rich in culture, hope, and heart. And every time we come together — whether for a meal, a celebration, or a simple moment of community — we strengthen the bonds that make this home.
I am committed to continuing to show up, listen, and work alongside you to build the future this community deserves.
From my heart to yours - Thank you for sharing this beautiful evening with me.
Let’s continue building something wonderful, together.
